Tom from Lewisham is in favour of road pricing because “London’s roads are choked with cars – and the number of vehicles keeps rising, so it’s only going to get worse.” He says, “The only fair way to incentivise people not to drive is to introduce a cost based on how much driving we each do – and the technology exists to do this.”
His concerns are, “We’ll need proper consideration to be given to privacy and the protection of the data that will be necessary to make per-mile work. This should include strict and clearly defined limits on data retention, and to whom the data can be shared. People need to have confidence that the data is private.”
